Regional National Anthem
I went to see Rab ne bana di jodi.... and as much as I would like to post a review of it here.. i am holding against that.. atleast for now… J
We all have been accustomed to the National Anthem that is sung before every movie played in the theatres in Mumbai. I think its a good move where we can pay a small tribute to our Nation's heritage and its pride for few minutes before enjoying our movie that we paid out for. I liked the idea despite a huge debate going out in the blogging circles about the sanctity and the justification of playing it before movies like "No Entry" or "The Dark Knight". Leaving the reasoning behind it, I still liked it. I will admit, I don’t fully realize the reason behind the move though.
What is actually circling my mind is the regional representation of the National Anthem. I have always seen it sung by heroes of our nations, celebrities, leaders.. as a whole united nation coming from different part of our country. Since the last few movies I have seen, mainly in Cinemax, I begin to get the felling of regionalization of the National Anthem itself. I believe we have a National Anthem to bring national pride in oneself - which shows how diversified, multi cultured, multi linguistic nation we are and can unite and sing one song for our country. It represents the country not the state and hence all states are mentioned in the song. If an Anthem is supposed to represent the nation then why have only regional actors singing it.
Please excuse if sentiments are hurt. This goes nothing against any particular region or language or state.
Any thoughts ??

Pune Trip Landscape
Went Pune yesterday... official purpose ofcourse.
Cant describe the beautiful landscapes on the way.. just couldnt resist the pics. Been there like a 100 times.. but this time just after the rains went slow.. and the sun in its full glory.. the sky and the greenery was an awesome spectakle.
It could easily have been mistaken for some other (over glorified) tourist place...

Memory Remain..
Dust to dust
Fade to black
Fortune, fame
Mirror vain
Gone insane
But the memory remains "
The most priced item I thought I had .. was in two minds was the KK notes on Quanti... I was still scared as to what if he found out that I gave it away - - what will he do?
Anyways.. I finally decided to pass it on to the other generation whos doing MBA now. I was wondering how we spent SEM after SEM looking at such books and gave our tests. As you can see.. from 48 units I have only 10 books on me.. the rest is lost in memories... :d
So long.. good bye to my books.. On the brighter side.. I got empty space for my DVDs now..

Passee
When i go out to other cities (unsaturated ones), I find there are places where for KMs you wouldn't spot a living person on the road you driving. I cant imagine that even at 1 at night on any day on any road even in Thane.. forget south bbay.
Guess I just assumed its always like that. Its like our professors always saying.. you got to visit rural India to see what it is. It cant be taught in books.

Movies Masti and Magic .... still continues
Saw Jaane Tu ya Jaane Na at R-Adlabs yesterday again and simply loved it. I had already seen it but this made me feel so good. Yes.. the story is repetitive and been told a thousand times, but this one was in great style. The beauty of the movie is in showing the simplicity of the relationship that gets complicated over time due to obvious nature. It was very well executed portraying just how people react when the obvious is not very obvious.
Anyways, point not being writing a movie review here.. but the fact that Adlabs and Cinemaxs of the world are just loot. Found that out when they said front seats are not available and had to take the Gold tickets only to find out later that the entire rows in the front were EMPTY !!! God can I sue them for misleading.
Interestingly enough they charge Rs 120 to 150 for front seats and 200 for back .. the movie looks the same from any direction and its pretty comfortable. I prefer the front ones cause its better experience, the exits are near and its cheap. Thats where I like PVR where the rule is first come first and all seats are equally priced. But then Nirmals is then few more Kms away :(
Am thinking of loging to Moutshut.com and write a blasting review about these places. Makes me wonder how much I really miss my old theatres .. classy blacony seats where Rs 50 seemed overpriced and Rs 12 ka popcorn was just too much. Apart from the price the experience was just wonderful when the aroma and the distinct smell in the air made you feel you in some extravagant place. The time when you enter the building and you rush upstairs towards the balcony and then enter the gigantic hall and you see people down in the stall was so much more fun. These were also the places where our school used to take us for educational shows. I wonder whats happened to such outings in school. We had seen Chota Chetan with 3D glasses and that was the one of the best time we had. No one makes such movies and there are hardly such theatres left where schools can take entire standard for a movie. Those days are well gone..
We all liked the spurge of multiplexes without understanding what we sacrificing for it. Am not being cynical about multiplexes but am trying to get in terms with the balance thats no longer there. In our little area where I live, we were surrounded by 7 Big theaters each showing a different film that used to stay there for atleast a couple of months. Aradhna - Wandana - Anand - Malhar - Pratap - Prabhat - (cant recollect the last one). Now mind you.. all these theaters are walking distances from each other and in our childhood we have had a ball visiting them. Aradhana was the most famous with also being the one taken down. Ruble and memories now lies there. Gone are also the typical show timings of 12-3, 3-6, 6-9, 9-12 and the famous matinee shows.
Well.. enough said but cant change the fact.. but my next move is to watch the next film in one of the 7 theaters and then see if the change is really for good or it isnt. Anyone wanna join let me know.

Break.... need more!!
The sea winds have that effect and makes us all take a moment to about all the beauty thats out there and forget the unforgiven life that we live mostly. What we all need is to take few times of our schedule and listen to the silence of the shores, the touch of the ghostly winds, the paramount exhibit of nature and enjoy the long fields. Enough said, I do it a little to often and havent had enough yet.
The beach was wonderful in all its glory. I avoided the pics there but its pasted in my mind. Its the view of all the wonderful things on the beach playing with all the other wonderful things. We played too.. but not with the other wonderful things that generally we all d in mind. We played cricket on the beach.. :D
Had thought the trip ended there.. but Mumbai weather had other things in mind. I could barely see 5 meters ahead of me..and was wondering how my taxi driver could see the road with the heavy downpour on the road. I enjoyed the rain seeing every system tested to its limits. wondering how everyone like me is stupid enough to travel to office today..... :)
Indeed... now I need a break...

Thought-fully
I see and I see it coming for myself too. The preparations, the style, the smile (stickiness), the fashion, the food, the materialistic minds, the show offs and the pride. Rest all things kept in place, I wished not.
The pressures of not staying here are high and not justified. What is the pattern is expected to be followed. Generations I knew are in some other corner and everyone has a story of chance to tell. I rather not tell mine.
Chances are there and ambitions too. It’s now a matter of choice. Time will tell.
Thinking why would someone keep a great song on caller tune and then disconnect when someone calls.
Sometimes think that the final of IPL is as scripted as it could have been. I wonder if it is actually being played.
Dun wrry... lecture is not the mantra of the day... Just wanted to share the pic... :D

Delhi Shelli...
Well, the conversation still continues and I still believe Mumbai is best in terms of Gal Quotient.. some of my friends disagree :P... I though admit Delhi has some amazing roads and infrastructure.. but then it has the space for it. We cant do that on our island.
The below list is taken from one of the Mumbai group on Facebook -- The group has 100s of them, I took few out of it.
You know you are from Mumbai (Bombay) when
1. You say "town " and expect everyone to know that*this means south of Churchgate.
2 You speak in a dialect of Hindi called 'Bambaiya Hindi', which only Bombayites can understand.
3. Train timings (9.27, 10.49 etc) are really important events of life.
4. You spend more time each month traveling than you spend at home.
5. You call an 8' x 10' clustered room a Hall.
6. You're paying Rs 10,000 sq ft. for a 1 room flat, the size of walk-in closet and you think it's a "steal."
7. You have the following sets of friend: school friends, college friends, neighborhood friends, office friends and yes, train friends, a species unique only in Bombay.
8. It takes longer to get off from your house to the station than from one end of Mumbai to another by train.
9. You actually pay for your rickshaws by the meter.
10. your idea of personal space is no one actually standing on your toes.
11. At 3am in morning you can still get wadapav or butter pav bhaji and when u r stuck in traffic even at 1:30 a.m
12. you call the cabbies n waiters BOSS
13. Every time you speak Hindi in front of a Delhitite they have the WTF expression on their face.
14. you behave like a foreigner in any other part of the country.
15. Chal, paka mat!" is an overused part of your vocabulary
16. You drink 2 sips of tea called 'cutting' more than thrice a day
17. you know that 'khamba' does not only mean pillar
18. When even at 8 in the morning you can see couples sitting and cozying up at Marine Drive and Worli Seaface
19. You get photographed at three parties and you're suddenly a page 3 regular
20. You know what the term "video coach" stands for in the local trains... (My Fav)
:D
My earlier trips there weren't exactly the social types and neither was this one... but on the last day of our training we had some time to make good. Having our drivers waiting to take us to airport, we took them to take us around Delhi. Expecting little dissatisfaction for doing more work than usual, my driver was more than happy to show us places. We could catch up only Kutub Minar and it was awesome. I had seen Lotus Temple last time ... so Qutub Minar was on the top of the list.

Weddings in Heaven....Rents in Hell... People on Earth dreaming
Had been in this game for a while now.. so I can tell. Its played pretty much like cricket. Both sides come to bat and there are fielders who are there to catch a bad ball you hit. The interesting thing worth noting here is.. did you really hit a good ball badly, or did you purposely hit it to the fielder to go back to the dressing room. Well the fielding side will never know since the scorecard will read You Caught... HAHAHHA...It is a funny game.
Hence, gals, you really rock. Katz is convinced she wont marry conventional style.. Rabs no different. F1 (as rabs calls her) never did. Rabs recently told me that she wont attend my wedding if I marry someone I recently met cause that poor girl made an intelligent comment.... hehehhehe. At least now I know she will attend my wedding... Phew!! Had I only known it earlier.. :P
I read today that someone took a property was rented for 1.5 crores a month in Bombay. That makes the whole equation in perspective.. doesnt it? Ambanis are creating a world record by creating the costliest house on Altamount road. Yeah.. its just Rs. 2000 crores worth. If you any graduate, you can figure out how much is 2k crores worth today.. and how many countries have GDP-NDP of that size.

My boss on my way back home on Friday asked me about a Job opening in UK to two of us. I was silent but was thinking thats too easy. They had the requirement and we had the niche. Boss's word wouldn't even need an interview. But will that make a difference.
I thought and Money wise, Yes... but as I cant help seeing it as Penny wise Pound foolish.
Lets see how Bombay has evolved. Its nothing to do with my love with the city but am asking you to do this from an historical perspective. Migrants from various villages came here for work and did the laborer's job and were treated as outsiders. They stayed through the humiliation and hard times and their next generations were called residents. They then took better education and job so you could make it big. Now when there is chance to make it big here, you go from this place to another city and start the whole cycle again ??? Is this all education here has taught us? We going from one village to another city. In all sense Bombay is costlier than New York and if one can make it big here, one can make it atleast twice as big in any other city in this world. Thats what I know..
but I dont want to convince you cause I might take the offer and GO !!!......:D

Anyways, further much ADO, will cut short and start studying. The tube-light in my house will be on for a while, and i need to get my thoughts right for what to speak in front of the huge crowd..... for the huge day tomorrow @ Symposium.

The Truth is out there .......... so are the Lies
Now, having the hypothesis in place, I wonder how did the love tales actually would have happened at that time where the lovers (according to history) had given their lives when they couldn't stay together. There must have been a fraction of a second, if not full, when either of them thought that giving up their life is not really worth it. Whats the use in dying for someone if you cant remain alive to enjoy the moments with that person for which you crying in the first place.
Anyways, I don't want to be the one sounding cynical and saying today times have changed and blah blah...So i will not.
Why suddenly this !!!
Its cause "Any fool can tell the truth, but it requires a man of some sense to know how to lie well."
So how to tell if someones lying?
A million dollar question - having lie detectors that themselves lie... what do we do??
Am thinking what will people in few centuries ahead talk about things in our generations. (i.e if our civilization survives few generations)
Probably about,
How Google killed MSN due to MSN's eyes on Yahoo.....

The Night of 27 on 28
The sound seemed to be coming from some distant place that made me go towards it. I was confident am still sleeping, but suddenly someone said something and I opened my eyes. I was actually awake and holding my cell. The display was blinking and it was KD calling. The sound of the ringtone was getting louder. It was pitch dark with the cell backlight lighting up the room and the ringtone sounding like a thousand trumpets blowing. I said hello and the only thing I remember saying was "Am sleeping.. let me sleep... ". She was trying to sound chirpy and energetic as usual... and then it struck.. its my Birthday day call. Sweet that she is, she realised I was in deep sleep, she made no stone unturned to try and wake me up - to the extent of getting angry and shouting at me.. I said bye and went to sleep.
In few minutes it felt like am dreaming again...sound buzzing.. room being lit.. not knowing where I am.. the phone was ringing. I felt its KD again. Hurriedly, since it was ringing loudly, I got up and picked up the call.. but it sounded different. Almost unconsciously I realized its Rabia. That seemed strange cause she hardly calls.. and never on birthdays. So this time I opened my eyes to see if the call is really ON and it was. I could only hear her laughing and saying something like.. "Mission Accomplished". I had to tell her.."Please !!!! Say what you have called for and let me sleep." After few minutes of laughing she hung up... w/o saying "Happy Birthday".
I was asleep again.. and then was another sound .. thankfully it stopped.. and i snoozed till dawn. Woke up and it was Fasi's SMS. I knew Rabs must have told her about her mega accomplishments of the night.
I am usually awake on Birthday nights and never miss the excitement.. but this time I was really in bad shape... damn tired.. just crashed.
Anyways, its not that I wanted to make a great day out of it or anything.. the long story of the night was not for your entertainment or display my talent in writing.. but it was only cause I really don't remember what else I said. So KD - Rabs, if you feel like commenting and if only its a good comment.. please mention it... :D

(Rural) India
The slides here do try to stress on some figures of Rural India and then it seemed how can this be true. The more time I spent on getting information, the more I felt that we are the small number of lucky ones who were born in the city and have hardly lived in the Rural areas of India. Some of our professors used to tell us that Rural India is difficult and its not what we read in any books, the truth is that we may somehow never experience that for ourselves. Again its not something thats to be experienced - but its something thats to be learned and done something about. If we cant help that, the least we can do is stop bragging about few silly things and issues and just for once realize the fact that how fortunate we are than the majority of others who live there and those who will never experience our lives.
Anyways, the presentation was made for IT enterpreneurship lecture, where the topic for me was to find out ways how IT can help Rural India. I have tried to collect material from various sources to see the condition that Rural India is in today and to highlight some projects which are undertaken in hope to help the population there. Just thought of sharing it here.

News 24/7.. or is it 0/7
Suddenly monkey became racist... to the extent, the news papers of two countries started writing essays and biographies for weeks together on someone being called MAAKI. I remember the times when we used to call someone monkey in school... and sometimes i also hear it from the people who prefer to use these words on me from time to time and I take it as if its a compliment.
Next, I was more shocked when some state banned a film and came out on streets for a lyrics in the song which said "mochi ban gaya sonar". I think people have way too much free time and no real news. It was not just the political figures who would rather spend the day solving peoples problems, but would instigate the population to come out on the streets and voice their anger over something so trivial, our media is the best when they show it as BREAKING NEWS. The previous breaking news according to me was the train blasts in mumbai. But we have news such as a boy slapped a girl or a housewive sent his husband to jail or a horse dying on the race field as all being breaking news.
Recently Shreeshant went to the land of Oz for match and BCCI warned him of controlling his expressions. I heard the news so far. But then the very ol news channel concluded - ruled and passed the judgment on BCCI as being guilty of committing the horrendous crime. The channel even had the background music being played while giving the news to create the sensation - as if we watching a thriller movie and not news. They accused BCCI of spoiling players morale and stealing his fighting weapon and we are all doomed cause of that. Cant they jsut Report news or is that old fashioned now.
The last of the lot coming from our own city on the issue of north Indian spoiling the ethnic values of Mumbai. Yeah and we do call our city the Melting Pot.. irony isn't it? I don't even want to write and give it importance, its simply just &##$###.
Just cause someone thought the news reporter worthy to be given a mic and camera to speak, he/she can say whatever conclusion they derive from the news??? Is this news reporting anymore? Who should teach them what is reporting? Are they even remotely qualified to pass judgment as to what is right and what is wrong for the nation. I remember when news used to be a 30 minutes feature on our DD at 9 and we all used to hear news Reporting. What we now have in our country is at least 15 different 24/7 news channels but not even one Reporting news.

free intenet from airtel
am at the new mumbai airport terminal and for the first time, i tried to check the Wi-Fi access here my friends were talking about here. I tried it to believe it, its a real treat. I was in complete surprise, when I found multiple ineternet access points on network detection.
I saw something marked Free Internet Airtel and voila. I was in. It then asks us to enter our phone number on which we get our access credentials. Initially I felt, thats the catch, now this wont work. I was not sure of getting the credentials over SMS so soon. But again to my surprise, as soon as i entered my phone number on the site, I got the return SMS in micro seconds giving me the user id and password to login. I entered the credentials as supplied and voila. Writing the post through it, think its good enough. I think not many international airports can boast of these facilities that we have here. Loving it here.......:)

Happy New 2008 !!
Happy New Year… Happy New 2008 to all.
When I look back, 2007 was a year of high hopes and low achievement. Truly, I don’t mind saying it, but I am proud because it ended in the best way it could. I did not plan for the evening, but it still ended on a very high note, being one of my best memories. So thanks for the wonderful evening and the company cause I am sure I wouldn’t have been happier any place else.
I have a feeling that this New Year will be special. Special cause it’s been a while since its been my way and going by the Sine Curve of Life philosophy the turn towards my goodness is now due. Having said this, I generally don’t believe that one date or a start of the year can change what we have sown in the past. So the effects of what’s been done will hound and no new 1st of Jan will change all that, but since the world is busy hoping that this new year will bring me joy and happiness, I too am hoping it will.
Personally, I am not even sure if the dates that we calculate are accurate. There is a big history how we have calculated date and time since ages and there is a huge debate that makes me believe that possibly this is not even 2008 we living in. Hence I know that nothing is going to change, but what is more important is to have Hope. It is interesting to know that when you have hope, things do change. And this is no magic or miracle that it does, but when we wish for something, there are invisible waves that get out in this universe. When these waves accumulate, there is some kind of positive energy in this world (the undiscovered energy) that makes it happen. Some believe that’s what we do when we pray. I believe in having faith in one and never to give up hope. If the hypothesis about the so called invisible positive energy is true then praying or having hope should both result in the same thing.
Avoiding the religious debate on the start of the New Year, let’s hope this New Year brings everything that we all hoped for.
Happy Hoping!!!
